Japan to me represents the heart of the Ceramic Wheel

I visit regularly to exhibit and have been privileged to meet the many leading Japanese Contemporary Masters . The four listed are extremely talented.

Shiro Tsujimura(Nara)

To me the undisputed "King Of Iga"

Tsujimura has phenomenal technique, is entirely  self taught and is considered by many the finest Tea bowl maker in Japan. He is also an accomplished painter.

His forms while essentially traditional exude power.

Ryoji Koie (Gifu)

The globetrotting human dynamo of Japanese Ceramics

He has a great love of simple forms and often does the unthinkable with amazing results. His work possesses  great energy.

Ryuichi Kakurazeki (Okayama)

A leading contemporary Bizen Master

Kakurezaki utilizes very modern ideas for a Bizen master   .  . His work tends toward the sculptural medium  and is always exciting..each year developing new and innovative forms

Shotaro Hayashi (Gifu)

A leading contemporary Shino Master

Certainly his work has great energy and he specializes in cutting techniques combining with powerful forms and superb glazing.
